Las Vegas was founded in 1911 and is now more than 110 years old, but it is still young compared to other cities in the United States. The state of Nevada, where Las Vegas is located, has always played a special role in the United States because of its liberal and lenient policies. That's why Las Vegas is internationally known as a gambling city, the capital of entertainment, and sometimes also known as Sin City. From its humble beginnings as a tavern and gambling hall, Las Vegas has undergone tremendous change from its current mega casinos, luxury hotels and abundant entertainment facilities. This change is reflected not only in the architectural design of Las Vegas, but also in the landscaping of the city's streets. The urban designers of Las Vegas have worked hard to integrate every aspect of the city's landscape with local cultural characteristics to make it a unique entertainment destination. The constant reinvention of the city's scene has brought it to life. Every year, hundreds of millions of visitors come to the city to experience a different picture of urban life.

Las Vegas, a city known for its unparalleled style and spectacular landscapes, showcased a unique and creative style in its buildings and neighborhoods from the early stages of development. None is more famous than the 6.5-mile-long Las Vegas Strip. One of the city's biggest tourist attractions in the heart of downtown, this thriving street is lined with iconic commercial and entertainment buildings such as luxury hotels, casinos, shopping venues and restaurants. The Strip offers a panoramic view of national landmarks such as the Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. The attractive exterior and interior of the buildings along the street are beautifully decorated and reshaped by flashing neon lights into a dream factory of entertainment at nightfall, attracting many tourists to spend money.

Las Vegas Strip

The spatial landscape of the Las Vegas Strip has not only gained the attention of a small group of tourists, but Denise Scott Brown, Robert Venturi and Steve Izenour's 1972 book Learning from Las Vegas brought the Las Vegas cityscape to the attention of academics and the general public. Learning from Las Vegas, co-authored by Robert Venturi and Steve Izenour in 1972, brought the Las Vegas cityscape to the attention of academics and the general public, creating a sensation. This still classic work explored a new post-modernist approach to the generation of urban streets and architecture in the early 1970s, with a strong cultural component of the American West. It was a different kind of cityscape from the functionalist one promoted by Modernism, but rather a way of communication oriented to the main mode of transportation in the city, the automobile, which completely reversed the urban design of previous architects.

The urban thinking in Las Vegas never cared about the modernist logic of architectural space, but served nakedly for business, showing an overall atmosphere of aspirational, wealth-hungry American dream. As a result, public facilities such as casinos and hotels here are designed to attract potential customers driving down the Broad Strip. As a result, "duck" houses, ornate "decorative shacks" and a variety of eye-catching billboards come into view in a noisy, crowded, but energetic manner. Among them, the ducks represent the structure and space of the deformed buildings, and the decorative shacks refer to the ordinary buildings full of advertisements. This new desert city, free from the shackles of history and tradition, freely uses various symbols to create an extreme architecture that stimulates the eye and does not take it for granted. It is this unrestrained attitude that makes it an unintentional pioneer of the post-modernist architectural city.

Las Vegas

As stated in the book, "Las Vegas signage uses a combination of words, images, and sculpture to convey a message. A marker is used both day and night. It is a colored sculpture in sunlight, a black silhouette when backlit, and a light source at night." The public masses do not have the spatial expertise of architects, but the architecture of Las Vegas understands their preferences and what they think, and by building mysterious narrow streets, using neon lights, advertising boards and other trademark-type devices, and designing fast food restaurants and other mundane but lively, decorative and vaguely symbolic buildings of all colors, the laws of architectural space design, which are held up to architects, are simply discarded. The architecture of Las Vegas is a clear rejection of the "less is more" minimalist design, bringing back to the city the popular symbols that the masses love. This unique architectural expression, born out of commercial necessity, is well suited to the rapid expansion of urbanization and the high speed of automobile traffic moving over long distances on wide roads.

Las Vegas

While the original urban picture of Las Vegas has been recognized, the urban planner's plans for place reinvention have since been attempted. Launched in early 2012, The Downtown Project is a major program that includes business ventures, incubators and joint ventures in everything from offices and retail stores to restaurants and bars to residential real estate development. The goal of the project is to help make downtown Las Vegas a place of inspiration and creativity, innovative entrepreneurial energy, and upward mobility opportunities. But the business and urban plan has attracted much criticism, most notably that the development marginalizes disadvantaged, less "creative" populations. But the City Center project's interventions are not linearly designed to change the urban environment that attracts professionals. Rather, the project is an inversion of the causality of the creative class model, placing selected creative professionals in the landscape to help create those specific cities.

While traditional urban design projects have been thwarted in Las Vegas, the architectural design of large-scale urban events has literally reshaped the landscape. Nine interactive media art installations covered the stage and nearby venues, bringing a new visual impact to the city's architecture. Dynamic effects were created to meet the theme, forming the main stage of the Kinetic Field. The central flower is a changeable device that can be transformed into an owl-like wild, exotic style at any time, with the drones in the air of the field and the spectacular fireworks show is very eye-catching.

Also highlighting the elements and design features in style is the CosmicMeadow stage. As one of the festival's three main stages, it conquered electronic and hip-hop music enthusiasts in 2022 with its bold, bohemian color scheme and simulated beach construction form design. The Circuit Ground stage on the other side is not as famous as the first two, but this time it is full of technology with its linear neon performance and visual expression of current extension, which makes people feel the pleasure and excitement of moving with the music. In addition, Bass Pod and Waste Land, which are built by professional lighting designers and programmers to promote immersive experience, create a hardcore fast-paced space experience with geometric symmetrical design and stacking, making people unforgettable.

EDC has given the entire city a new entertainment theme, and this thematic picture in turn attracts more visitors to the city. The landscape design of Las Vegas also makes the entire city a more interesting environment, allowing visitors to experience the free culture of Las Vegas in greater depth. The buildings of Las Vegas also make the city more vibrant through their beautiful design and diverse colors.

MGS Sphere Spherical Immersion Experience Center

To this day, Las Vegas is a city that continues to reinvent its architectural and urban landscape. As the number of leisure and entertainment cities grows, Las Vegas is aware of the crisis that could steal visitors away, so it has made a special effort to create its newest urban icon, the MGS Sphere, the world's largest spherical immersion experience, with an investment of approximately $11.6 billion. Not only is the inner skin of the 112-meter-high spherical building equipped with high-resolution, high-resolution LED screens with an area of more than three soccer fields, but the outer skin is also equipped with more than 50,000 square meters of controllable programmable lighting to create a shared carnival inside and outside the building. In addition to the state-of-the-art visual experience, unseen graphic experiences such as hearing, touch, and smell are also on the agenda. The steel frame topping of the main building structure is expected to be completed in 2023 and open to the public for the first performance soon thereafter. The continuous reinvention of Las Vegas' architecture and landscape design has brought much life and transformation to the city, but what remains constant is the picture of the entertainment experience it strives to provide for the escalating human dream.
