Candy Colors
World

In this issue, we have selected six photographers who are good at using color. They walk around the city lanes, capturing the temperature of the sun, presenting the relationship between light, shadow, people and the surrounding environment, and conveying a thousand words about the warm spring through a single image.

Even if they are not photographing spring, the soft colors and dreamy tones create the feeling of spring, bringing audiences to feel the temperature of the city and find the beauty of life.

NO.1
Teresa Freitas

图片

Teresa's photographs have a crayon-like dreamy glow. Through saturation and light, a soft and gorgeous dreamlike journey is created, as if walking through a Wes Anderson film.

And the otherwise unusual palm trees, the streets of Chinatown, the buildings of St. Petersburg, the roadside plants and the distant beaches are transformed into something intangible and more camera-ready through artful composition and unique aesthetic manipulation.

Many people say that there is a sense of peace and happiness that pervades their hearts when viewing Teresa's work. Looking at the world through Teresa's eyes, the world begins to turn candy-colored, as if it can cure all unhappiness.

When talking about her signature style, Teresa also says: I have always been interested in the color palette, knowing that color can shape images and provide a subtle separation from reality.

During my travels, photography made me more aware of my surroundings and allowed me to focus more on myself. I began to ask myself while shooting: What do you want? How do you want to present street photography? I wanted them to be vibrantly alive, vividly imaginative, and so created a highly fantastic world.

Initially, Teresa planned to become a multimedia designer. But then, loving to travel and obsessed with photography, she decided to teach herself to become a photographer. Thus, a style that blends film footage, street photography architecture, and teenage idealism was born.

And with the color aesthetics she created, Teresa also created a romantic journey for our eyes and hearts, and is favored by many of the world's leading brands. Because Teresa's special aesthetics has some kind of power to heal the heart.

Teresa says: My aim is not to influence the audience in a specific way, I just want people to appreciate my work. Even if it's not to their personal taste, it's rewarding when people get a visual treat when they watch it.

Teresa's work adds a touch of sunshine to a dark and damp place and helps people escape from mundane worries. It gives the viewer the opportunity to step into an ideal version of the world in real life.

The photography, filled with light clouds, perfectly soft buildings, and shimmering blue seas, seems to help people step into Hayao Miyazaki's animation, Margaret's paintings, and Wes Anderson's films.

Even if you just stop for a moment, you can feel the dense beauty.

Ben Thomas

图片

Born in Australia, Thomas is a renowned photographer, accomplished artist and writer. He is known for his conceptual photography, which creates candy-colored shades by using low-contrast tones and avoiding large color contrasts.

This palette makes these cities look dreamlike, giving a different perspective and a way to look at the everyday landscape.

图片

图片

图片

Thomas has been living and working in Melbourne since 2003. He considers Melbourne to be the starting point for his inspiration and approach to his artwork. For it was during this time living in Melbourne that he began to really get into photography.

Reflecting on these years, Thomas says: I spent a lot of time editing images when I was younger, and this sparked my interest in the visual arts. Photography is a tool used to discover and document, and it was this documentary process and pure fascination with a new environment that started the photographic journey.

图片

图片

图片

In a kaleidoscopic style, Thomas deconstructs and reconstructs many large cities. In his lens, the architectural styles of Hong Kong, Shanghai, London, Paris, and Italy, all these different places, collide with their surroundings, with pale yellows and reds interspersed with aqua accents, making them feel clean and isolated, creating a hyper-realistic representation of the city.

图片

图片

图片

Thomas' style was slowly developed later in life. In the process of shooting, he discovered that tilting and moving the camera could reduce the depth of field in an image to create a sense of miniature and three-dimensionality, and that by exploring highly saturated images, urban sprawl could be transformed into a surreal image full of flatness, color and storytelling.

Since then, Thomas has been traveling around, frantically pursuing the beautiful buildings, dedicating himself to showing images that emphasize color and geometric shapes, leading people to discover what makes cities special, and to re-experience the beauty of the world in a very different aesthetic from the old days.

图片

图片

图片

It has been said that Thomas' style of work is to narrate the relationship between people and buildings under a sugar coating. When one steps into his dream world, the usually bleak corners, the mundane and uninteresting streets, the dilapidated apartments, the monotonous and repetitive lives, all take on a new vigor and vitality.

NO.3

Matthias Heiderich

图片

The most breathtaking thing about street photographers is that they bring buildings to life. Matthias is one of the best at this, and each of his photos has a captivating appeal.

Born in Munich and now living in Berlin, Matthias is a self-taught photographer. It was only in 2008 that he got his first camera and started his photography journey. But in 2010, he took the photography world by storm with his first photo project "Berlin in Color".

In his set of photos, he presents the cityscape of the German capital in vivid colors, highlighting the structural aesthetics and sculptural significance of the city's architecture. The city of Berlin, Matthias says, is a place that is both beautiful and terrifying.

图片

图片

图片

The whole city is actually greyer, revealing the city's archaic and austere nature, but Matthias tries his best to find more colorful places in Berlin, looking for as many spots as possible and uncovering another side of the city that is not known to the public.

As a result, his work captures this dual attribute of the city, making this hardened city take on candy-like colors and creating a dream-like new Berlin by blurring the lines between graphic design and photography.

As you can imagine, when the work was posted on the internet, many people lamented that they had never seen such a Berlin before. As a first photography project, Matthias became an instant hit.

图片

图片

图片

After the success of "Berlin in Color", Matthias shifted his perspective to other cities such as Spain, Barcelona, San Francisco, St. Petersburg and Zurich, focusing on the overcrowded urban areas. Photographing architecture, epic skyscraper views, to show the vibrant side of the city, but also the loneliness behind the traffic.

Self-taught, Matthias seems to have a natural sense of street scenes and architecture, always finding another side that other architects can't detect, and creating a different lens language by taking a different approach.

In his unique way of composition, there are surprising angles and colors, corners and details. And behind the rainbow-like dreamy space, at the same time, because of the minimalist layout, a sense of loneliness of futuristic universe is presented.

图片

图片

图片

图片

Matthias's symmetry-filled images, clean lines, awe-inspiring structures, and collages of geometric shapes all provide an artistic aesthetic that departs from the banal in urban scenes.

图片

图片

图片

图片

图片

Looking at the photos of several streetscape artists, we will find that their photography has a romanticized sweetness.

Perhaps it is the real world, which is slightly bitter; the standing buildings, which are also slightly cold. When they try to use artistic, pictorial photography to give out some sugar to this world, it is full of healing colors, which makes people feel sweet and warm.

Maria Svarbova

图片

图片

Photographer Maria Svarbova is from Slovakia and she specializes in artistic portraits. Under her lens, the silent and serious girls and the swimming pool are bound to each other, and a refreshing and detached atmosphere spreads between the two.

图片

图片

图片

图片

The main character in the picture is as delicate and indifferent as AI beauty. Some soak in the water like a silent head down, some stand in line at the pool as if waiting for the issuance of orders, and some are fully dressed sitting aside for a dinner date.

图片

图片

图片

The freshness and splendor of the colors contrast with the emptiness and rigidity of the figures. Maria uses this artistic presentation to ask the viewer: what is the role of the mechanically rigid human being in an increasingly cold and empty society?

NO.5

Teresa Freitas

图片

Portuguese photographer Teresa Freitas' photos are equally colorful, with pink, orange, yellow, green and blue mixed together to form a pleasing candy-colored picture.

图片

图片

图片

Teresa was inspired by the natural and simple living environment of the village, capturing the scenery of the street corners and the mountains and the sea, and lowering the color saturation to a romantic and beautiful level, resulting in a film that has the feel of The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Matt Crump

图片

What is your idea of happiness? For photographer Matt, happiness is an empty summer beach, warm and sunny days, freshly baked bread, and falling in love.

In order to convey his understanding of happy life and the idea of happiness, he took a series of beautiful photographs with a very personal perspective and heart-warming warm colors.

图片

图片

图片

图片

In Matt's work, you can see summer palm trees, playgrounds that make children's hearts swell just by looking at them, and buildings that are full of healing colors.

Matt says that the warm colors of summer will always be his favorite. He is forever committed to exploring candy-colored spaces, surrealist compositions, and dreamy scenes to build an atmosphere of perpetual summer.

图片

图片

图片

图片

Born in Texas, Matt studied creative advertising and worked as a commercial art director for nearly a decade before becoming a photographer, and in 2014, tired of the boredom and rigidity of commercial advertising, he began working professionally in photography and invented a new style that is sweeping the internet.

Matt gave the new style a vivid and interesting name, "candy minimalism". Under his call, there are about 125,000 works with this mark on Ins, creating a candy color trend all over the Internet.

图片

图片

图片

Because of his remarkable achievements, Time Magazine named him the Best Ins Photographer in Texas in 2016.

Matt insists on sharing photos to the public every day, full of various minimalism, rich colors and fantasy worlds. While showing the ghostly brain, he also shows the warmth of the world and gives the viewers visual and emotional enjoyment.

图片

图片

Matt sayshis dream is to become a forest ranger, or a world traveler. Only after beginning to understand his childhood experiences and ideas can one understand how his creative and imaginative world came to be.

图片

图片

图片

Some people question that the world presented by Matt is not real, and even blurs the sense of reality and realism. Matt says: people understand reality and reality as what the eye sees, while the artist presents reality and reality as what he feels.

Therefore, Matt photographs landscapes, buildings, etc., and through software, infuses that memory full of bright, vibrant neon and candy colors to present the world as he understands it.
