Alexander Archerben, whose artistic creation was influenced by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, used interlocking and overlapping solid substances, used the voids of the sculpture to show the characteristics of the characters, expressed his artistic point of view, and created Cubism Sculpture, one of the pioneers of Cubist sculpture.
Archerben was born in Kyiv, Russia in 1887 and died in New York in 1964. The initial artistic point of view was to advocate the combination of painting and sculpture, and then advocated the use of hole-type sculpture structures and the creation of works by himself, which played an important role in promoting the development of sculpture art, and he also became a famous Cubist sculptor. His cubist sculptures also use experimental methods to introduce collages and mixed media sculptures for sculptural creation, integrating materials such as multi-colored glass, acrylic and terracotta, which he calls "sculptural painting". Therefore, sometimes his sculptures are not single objects, but composite masterpieces. Inverting the traditional concept of "sculpture is an entity surrounded by space" and viewing sculpture as a composition of combined space has become Archerben's most successful creation.
Archerben's experience is very rich, and his creative experience is also very tortuous, and there are not many works left behind.
As a teenager, he studied at the Kyiv Art School. He then went to the Moscow Art School, and in 1908 went to study in Paris, France. Two years later, in 1910, he came to study in Berlin, Germany, and exhibited his paintings and sculptures in various German cities. However, his encounter in Berlin was not so smooth and unsuccessful. Instead, threatened by fascists, a large number of works were destroyed. So he was forced to leave Berlin for New York, USA.
After he settled in New York, this was the golden age of his artistic creation and theoretical maturity. Archerben opened his own sculpture school, began teaching sculpture in major schools in the United States, and later obtained American citizenship. He never left the United States until his death.
