Because her father was an architect, Misaki Ida often helped her father with his projects as a child, painting store signs and murals, which kept her fond of creativity and naturally led her to work in a creative field when she grew up. Probably because she is a girl, Misaki Idas designs always reveal an unconscious elegance and spontaneity that is very friendly to people. Her work is like a seed full of infinite possibilities, with a sense of monologue-like storytelling.


The logo and visuals for the Kobe boutique "HIBARI NORTH BANK" in 2019 are certainly an example. The name of the store is transformed by Misaki Ida, and then "flies" together with a bird in the visual "space" created by Ida, giving a sense of freedom and spontaneity. It also fits the core of the brand's message: to make adult women in their lives feel cool and different.


The visual design for his studio's brand "Shirts by Stand" is also something Ida enjoys working on: "It's a niche shirt brand created from our graphic designer's perspective. All the sewing is done in Japan, and the prints are hand-printed one by one in the studio, with different patterns and positions (lines), so each shirt is a unique work of art." While attempts to incorporate differences into the work are becoming commonplace in the age of mass production, the artistic perspective of this project's intervention in design also gives us further insight into Ida's and Stand's interpretation of design. As she said in an interview, "Usually, the way we work takes into account the wishes of the client. As a result, sometimes cases don't develop as we would like them to. Thus, we feel we can try to make clothes in order to express our designs freely in such cases."


The freedom possesses a clear sense of self behind it. She believes that "it's important not to be influenced by trends and to keep something clear in your mind." This clarity seems to be present both in the Shirts by Stand project and in her work. For example, Ida designed the album cover and promotional poster for the musical group Yoshida Daikiti x KyuRi. The group makes music by playing traditional Indian instruments mixed with electronic sounds. Ida used a personal and expressive notation in the design to convey this.


As the times move forward, graphic designers are constantly facing the latest updates in the field of technology head-on. Speaking of technology, Ida says, "While the range of expression is increasing dramatically as technology evolves, good design (such as using a certain typeface of the right size for a certain situation) is somehow ingrained in the designer's brain. We seem to be moving toward similar representation and there can be concerns about whether artificial intelligence can replace this approach to design. I think designers sometimes need to look in the opposite direction of where technology is going. Every day we are grateful for the benefits that technology brings, but no matter how much technology evolves, we should not forget the output to the outside world not only on the screen, but also through actual observation and touch."
