SHENZHEN Port, the country’s largest LNG trading port, received roughly 11.99 million tons of liquid natural gas (LNG) in 2021, up 25.3 percent from a year earlier, which is in the front rank in the country, according to information released by the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau.

The bureau and related companies have made great efforts to ensure LNG supply in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), as well as the country and to promote use of LNG in the transportation sector.
Natural gas is deemed as a key green source of energy to achieve the country’s carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
On Nov. 4, 2021, Shenzhen Hua’an LNG Port received a license for LNG fuel operation, taking a step forward for the establishment of an LNG fuel center in the city.
The fuel center’s construction will attract more LNG-fueled vessels to call at Shenzhen Port to boost the city’s green shipping development, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.
A vessel loaded with 147,000 cubic meters of natural gas arrived at a Dapeng LNG terminal at 7:30 p.m. Dec.14, 2021, marking the country’s first berthing of a large and heavy-duty LNG ship. This batch of LNG will be used for electricity generation and gas supplies in cities in the GBA, according to the Daily’s report.
At 6:30 p.m. Dec.15, the ship left for Australia to carry the next LNG shipment.
At the same time, more efforts have been put to ensure green operations at Shenzhen Port. It is said that Shenzhen Port introduced 423 LNG-fueled trailers, 15 LNG-powered buses and over 170 various kinds of electric operation machines. More green energy powered vehicles will be introduced to the port, said the report.
