The exhibition focuses on the colorful colors in furniture design. By classifying about four hundred exhibits by color, the collections of different periods and styles are displayed in a simple and comprehensive manner. These epoch-making master furniture also vividly reflect different eras. how designers use color.
Working with the curators of the collection and nearly 400 exhibits, Sabine Marcelis focuses on color to present the collection with a fresh perspective, eschewing traditional museum display styles and focusing on color narratives. Historical objects and archival documents scattered around the exhibition complement the presentation, showing how ideas from different eras approached the colour theme.
Sabine Marcelis is one of the most anticipated emerging designers in 2022. She is not only the winner of the best newcomer award at the 2019 Milan Furniture Fair The Design Prize, but even at the end of 2019, she became a participant in the German Pavilion in Barcelona. One of the artist members of , and the winner of the Wallpaper 2020 Designer of the Year Award. She is known for her use of resinous materials, and her ability to incorporate a unique architectural aesthetic into everything, incorporating avant-garde ideas in her designs.
"Fearless Glass" art installation
"Fearless Glass" is on display at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion. The collection perfectly balances the Mies van der Rohe Foundation's request to "never use too much glass" and designer Sabine Marcelis' own principle of glass as the main creative element.
The exhibits seem to grow from the building itself. The base of the two large lounge chairs seems to be extended through the lime floor. It is cut by a single piece of bending glass slice from a single piece of bending glass pulled out of the wall. These two materials are combined to form functional furniture with sculpture.
Sabine Marcelis not only squeezed into new works with sturdy building materials, but also incorporated natural elements into the exhibition hall.In the outdoor pool, a curved glass fountain seems to be leading the water from the ground to the air and then falling into the pool.
SEEING GLASS series
The SEEING GLASS series is a project in which designers and glass artisans discover various new potentials through trial and error in factories, using glass as the raw material. Various glass products are given different colors and layers, resulting in a series of works full of visual impact.
Offround Hue from Sabine Marcelis is its latest creation. The hand-painted irregular round glass is given different shades of color. This work, which combines material, form and color properties, changes the world in the mirror through reflection. The most unique aspect of this mirror series is the color on the top, the gradient color integrates shape and space, echoing people's perception of reflection and surrounding space.
Resin lamps
Sabine Marcelis is even more famous for the use of resin materials, and can incorporate a unique architectural aesthetic into various things, and the design contains various avant-garde concepts. Resin, a material with transparency, texture and rigidity, is his favorite. Sabine Marcelis' fascination with resin materials is evident in this work. Taking advantage of the sculptural beauty and adopting a totemic form, several stacked translucent resin volumes are combined into a light fixture.
The Totem series is composed of several translucent resin blocks stacked and can be rotated slightly around the central axis. Neon lights are placed as a light source into the void in the center of the volume, allowing the smooth resin surface and the reflected light to form a multi-layered interaction with a sense of distortion. From every angle, you get a completely different lighting experience.
Fendi resin series
Sabine Marcelis has designed and built 10 resin fountains to celebrate ten years of fashion brand Fendi's involvement at Design Miami. "The designer used water as a design tool, amplifying its delicate beauty by realizing 10 fountains. These fountains were inspired by 10 of the most iconic symbols of this Roman historic building." "Double F" by Fendi "The sign was hammered into a horizontal slab of yellow resin, and water was carved into the cavity. The tall design features a gradient from yellow to red, mimicking a sunset in the Italian capital, while the water slopes down along the slightly sloping front.
The designer "frozen" Fendi's classic Peekaboo handbag in a resin block, demonstrating the functionality and durability of this classic handbag in what could be described as an "artistic act".
The rotating glass dishes that appeared in the market on the Chinese dining table have become a beautiful existence created with resin materials.
The light translucent material and the discs with beautiful patterns form a very unique aesthetic.
Soap Table
This set of Soap tables is also made of resin material, but the unique surface is made of soap matte. The resulting soft feel is perfect for dining.
Filter Lights
This group of works, called Filter Lights, uses cast resin materials to create a unique look and feel of the lamps and lanterns with a fusion of different properties. These materials and properties are only revealed when the light is turned on.
Dawn Lights
This group of works is inspired by the scene at dawn. The designer explores the relationship between light and color, and you can feel the fleeting moment when the clouds and the sky are one, beautiful and wonderful.
Playing on the various relationships between light, colour, transparency and saturation, the collection highlights the artful manipulation of colour and the wonderful intersection of light with a single white neon light embedded in cast resin.
Candy Cube
A block device called Candy Cube was once known, and one of them was also put into the store by Céline. These regular squares are translucent, and when the light passes through them, they will shine brightly and look as sweet as candy.
Fashion brand Isabel Marant invited Sabine Marcelis to make a set of dark, psychedelic cubes for himself. It's easy to do, actually the process of soldering is very difficult.
