The global epidemic is still ongoing. With the cancellation of the Asian Cup in China, many netizens are still worried about whether the postponed Hangzhou Asian Games will also be cancelled? After all, the Asian Games are not easy to come by every four years.
Recently, the Asian Olympic Committee officially issued an announcement confirming that the "Hangzhou Asian Games" will not be cancelled and will be postponed to 2023. This news is undoubtedly very good news for the Hangzhou Asian Organizing Committee and participating athletes from various countries. It is also a reassurance for hundreds of millions of Chinese people and athletes.
Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, 56 stadiums, 5 Asian Games villages and sub-villages, it is believed that these buildings will be unveiled in new shapes, leaving people with the most unique memories of Hangzhou.
01 New Highlights: E-Sports Breakdance, Two New Project Venues for the Hangzhou Asian Games
In December last year, the 39th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia was held. E-sports and breakdance were officially approved to be included in the Hangzhou Asian Games competition items.
The Canal Asian Games Park is located in the Shenhua section of Gongshu District, covering an area of 701 mu, including the gymnasium (the venue for the table tennis and breakdance competitions of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou), the "Hangzhou Umbrella" Stadium (the venue for the hockey competition in the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou), etc.
This is the largest new Asian Games venue in the main urban area of Hangzhou, and it is also the first comprehensive urban sports park in Zhejiang Province that integrates gymnasiums, parks, sports fields and commercial facilities.
The shape of the building is an irregular oval. It is designed by American ATS and other international teams. The design is inspired by the jade Cong of Liangzhu culture.
The building area is 21,477 square meters, with three floors, including one underground floor and two above ground floors, which can accommodate 7,500 auditoriums indoors.
The exterior color of the building is the same as that of the Hangzhou Asian Games mascot Cong Cong (see the picture below). It is made of brass-colored anodized aluminum and a diagonal grid glass curtain wall, which injects a youthful atmosphere into the building.
The 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games E-sports Hall was designed by Zhongnan Architectural Design Institute. This project is the first venue in China to meet the official competition standards of the Asian Games. Its appearance has perfected the functional requirements of e-sports competition, training and entertainment in Hangzhou E-sports Digital Entertainment Town.
The total construction area of the e-sports hall is about 80,000 square meters. Its volume and special external factors of the site promote the formation of architectural logic "from the outside to the inside". The architect introduced the design concept of "interstellar vortex", and continued the three main walking paths around the base as the skeleton of the "interstellar vortex", rotating and rising around the core to form the main body of the building, just like the stars in the cosmic nebula, projecting light and light into the interstellar space. energy.
The exterior skin of the building is made of self-cleaning anodized aluminum panels and transparent LED glass curtain wall units, which organically integrate a series of multimedia technologies such as LED dynamic screens, three-dimensional holographic images, and large-scale electronic interactive devices into the indoor and outdoor spaces of the building.
Structural disassembly model
The relationship between architecture and structure, structure and space constitutes the most important link of the whole architectural design. The design team pursues the integration of structural strength and beauty, explores the intersection of structural materials, structural nodes, and artistic shapes, and expresses the structural rhythm and order of the building with poetic romance.
Building steel structure topped out earlier this year
The central part of the main structure is a circular steel frame structure, and the roof adopts a cable-bearing grid structure with a maximum span of 70 meters.
The venue has 4087 seats
The circular main competition hall is located in the center of the building, and three halls are set up around the competition hall. Spaces such as broadcast, VIP, storage and canteen are set between the competition hall and the hall. The underground is equipped with referees, coaches, athletes, news media and various equipment functions, and is connected to the sunken courtyard and square.

On March 15, 2022, the Hangzhou Asian Games e-sports venue, which looks like a "star battleship", was successfully powered on and the lights were turned on for the first time.
02 Large and small lotus flowers bloom in the main stadium of the Asian Games by the Qiantang River Tennis Center
In 2019, the main stadium of Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center was completed and put into use. This "big lotus" blooming on the south bank of Qiantang River is the well-deserved "C position" of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. Architectural design firm NBBJ prioritized sustainability and the experience of the masses in this project, focusing on the lack of recreational and recreational public spaces in the city.
The "big lotus" is composed of 28 large petals and 27 small petals. The translucent "petals" are perforated metal plates as the structure, and the overall construction reduces the use of steel by two-thirds.
The fluid circulation of the site space creates a seamless three-level pedestrian experience, connecting the main stadium with tennis courts and retail areas through upper-level platforms, ground-level garden paths and sunken courtyards, becoming China's next-generation sports center and providing Fans and the community provide an active destination before, during and after the game.
Tennis Hall·Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Tennis Center
"Little Lotus" is the tennis center venue of Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo City, next to the Olympic Sports "Lotus Bowl". The "petal" design is also used. From the air, this tennis center venue is like a miniature version of the "Lotus Bowl", alias "Little Lotus".
There are 24 "small petals" in the lower half of the building, and 8 "big petals" that rotate in the upper half. The building area is 523,000 square meters and the number of seats is about 10,000.
The roof can be rotated to open and close according to weather conditions.
This is the world's first principle of "swivel opening and closing roof". The building structure adopts a truss steel structure, so that each petal visually constitutes a relatively independent effect, but in fact it is a whole.
Each "big petal" weighs 160 tons, and the opening and closing time of the "petal roof" is about 20 minutes. The roof that slowly opens and closes is also a beautiful enjoyment from the perspective of the audience.
03 A Jiangnan-style oil-paper umbrella hockey field
The North Stadium in the Asian Games Park will host hockey and blind soccer matches during the Asian Games/Paralympic Games. Archi-Tectonics said that the design was inspired by the structure and materials of traditional oil-paper umbrellas, and was called a Jiangnan-style "Hangzhou umbrella" by citizens.
There are approximately 5,000 hockey arenas, and the architects worked closely with structural engineer Thornton Tomasetti to create a prototype of the winged roof and tested its variants several times, eventually creating an ultra-lightweight that can freely span 125 meters qualitative structure. Its winged roof shades the stands, arena and entry plaza from sunlight, and introduces a sculptural element into the park.
The venue itself sits on an oval lawn that sinks into the ground, and its site blends with the landscape, making it a venue for outdoor events such as concerts, night markets, and community gatherings after the Asian Games.
The cornice and keel structure are projected by floodlights, and the angle of the light is finely controlled to highlight the characteristics of the "oil-paper umbrella" material, so as to express the unique charm and soft shape of the building.
04 "Whirlwind Gyro" looks cool in the Asian Games roller skating competition field
Qiantang Roller Skating Center is located in Dongdong Bay Headquarters Base in Qiantang District, adjacent to Qiantang River. In order to fit the roller skating competition, the venue is designed as a "cyclone top", which represents the characteristics of the roller skating project.
The track of the roller skating hall is different from that of general sports venues, and uses a hyperbolic professional track. The hyperboloid design of the roller skating hall provides a certain slope, which can bring a sense of speed to the athletes, and also provide the athletes with more options for skating routes and improve the viewing experience.
The roller skating hall is equipped with the latest 200*7 meter standard speed roller skating track of the International Roller Skating Association and a 50*25 meter figure roller skating competition venue. It is the first domestic competition venue with a hyperbolic roller skating track and the most professional indoor roller skating in Asia. Professional venues.
05 Hangzhou Gymnasium changed its old look and returned after two years to serve as the Asian Games Boxing Stadium
Hangzhou Gymnasium was built in 1966. It is a city-level cultural relics protection unit and the only remaining saddle-shaped suspension structure building in the world. It can be said that it has precipitated the good memories of generations of Hangzhou people.
In 2019, the venue began to implement renovation works, and two years later, it was finally unveiled in early April this year! It undertakes the tasks of the Hangzhou Asian Games boxing and the Hangzhou Asian Paralympic Games bocce games.
From the perspective of protecting history and culture, adhering to the principle of "repairing the old as the old", maintaining the historical style and reflecting the cultural heritage, the renovation and upgrading not only meet the needs of the event, but also take into account the use after the game, and ensure the needs of the masses for fitness and hosting large-scale sports activities.
The mosaic mural above the main entrance of the venue was built in the early 1980s. In this renovation, the mosaic murals were photographed and archived, and then entered into the electronic equipment to analyze the missing color blocks and customize the repair plan. The mosaic color blocks for complementary colors are professionally customized from the manufacturer. After the renovation, the mosaic murals are full of "retro" flavor.
In the venue, the top cloud ceiling has a very design sense, and the sports floor, lighting, audio, seats and other facilities and equipment have been replaced and upgraded. To meet the needs of the event, a new training hall, event function rooms and an underground garage have been built in the stadium.
06 Upgrading of Zhejiang Huanglong Sports Center, the first ring-screen open stadium in China
In December 2019, the renovation of the Huanglong Asian Games venue was started, and the fully upgraded gymnasium was reopened in February 2022. Huanglong Sports Center consists of a stadium, a gymnasium, a swimming and diving hall (detailed below). During the Hangzhou Asian Games, it will undertake 5 competitions in three categories: football, gymnastics (competitive gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline) and water polo, as well as the Asian Paralympic Games. Athletics events.
In this renovation, the tower is embedded with 6 split screens to form a large high-definition screen in the sky, which can stage light shows, and can also present the pictures of events or performances in real time. There are also two large display screens inside the venue, which can still be seen clearly even in strong sunlight.
Ring screen
The LED ring screen of Huanglong Sports Center is divided into upper and lower channels, which are distributed in the middle of the seats. The upper ring screen is 590 meters long and the lower ring screen is 490 meters long, with a total area of over 1,000 square meters. sports stadium.
The newly upgraded Huanglong Sports Center also has an orange-red "ribbon" suspended in mid-air outside the stadium, which is an air runway built for the convenience of citizens to exercise. The runway is 1km long and 3.1m wide.
07 Create a "floating feeling" like a future building, Zhejiang Huanglong Sports Center Swimming and Diving Hall
The swimming and diving hall of Zhejiang Huanglong Sports Center is located by the West Lake in Hangzhou. It is the venue for the Hangzhou Asian Games. The main functions are swimming competition pool, diving competition pool and warm-up training pool.
Zhongnan Architectural Design Institute arranged the swimming pool and diving pool on a level floor, and raised the training pool 10 meters above the competition pool in staggered layers. On the premise of satisfying functions and streamlines, the three swimming pools are guaranteed to have good natural ventilation and lighting conditions, completing an extreme challenge between a huge building volume and a small land.
The outline of the building naturally forms an overall shape of ups and downs according to the internal space relationship, and presents a "floating feeling" like a future building through the free-curve shape of the façade cornice.
The "round and smooth" natural form of the swimming and diving hall is visually reminiscent of the waves in the swimming competition field. The exterior form of the building becomes an intuitive reflection of the internal functions, which further enhances the readability of the building to the public.
08 Principles of green and sustainable development of "Future Community" after the "Asian Games Village" during the game
