214 Photography: "Under the River"
The shortlist for the 2022 Arles Photobook Prize has been announced. The 214 photo book "Fake Dog" published by JIAZAZHI was shortlisted for the Author Book Award, which is also the only Chinese photo book shortlisted this year. The author of this book is photographer 214.
214 is a post-90s generation born in central Guizhou. In 2017, he resigned from a township people's government. In July of the same year, he won the 40th Japan Photo New Century Excellence Award. His photography works are as full of daily life as the "stage name" he gave himself on his birthday. Ni Liang, the founder of Imageless, who has published a photo collection for him, recalled that when he first saw the photos of 214, his first impression was direct and pure, "His photos can closely restore his life. Delicate and sensitive, I can feel his keen observation of all things."

The opportunity for 214 to follow photography stems from his previous work experience in a studio, "When I was working in a studio, I kept thinking that the commercial photography and these so-called 'little freshness' that I have come into contact with now are the whole of 'photography'. ?” “Ask yourself, I think photography should be more free.”
When 214 talked about his work, he used the lines from the movie "The Taste of Orange Sand" to describe: "We were born into this world to listen and see." "Under the River" is 214's most well-known work. In this small river in 214's hometown, 214 used lush plants, dappled light, clear water and wandering animals to construct a summer in his eyes, "If you must delineate a theme for these photos, I think It should be beauty and life, and all moving things have to do with them."
