Merely exposing the psychopathology of an everyday life, creating a simulacrum that modifies and tampers reality, Casebere's scenes are deeply ambiguous yet politically oriented, documenting our time by conveying a disturbing image of space and landscape. Casebere's photographs are stripped of colour and detail to evoke an emotional rather than a physical sense of the form of a place, with the aim of focusing on the memories and feelings that come with the architectural spaces he represents.

His work is both poetic and political, creating lifelike portraits that expose what American historian Hal Foster has called "the psychopathology of everyday life."

Casebere's work gradually takes on a broader perspective: the surreal domestic scenes and claustrophobic vistas of his early works give way to the evocative architectural interiors and exterior spaces of architectural typologies found in the United States and the Middle East.
