Recently, the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich held an award ceremony for "Best of 2022", a professional competition held every December by Hochparterre, a prestigious publisher in the Swiss architecture industry, to select and honor the best Swiss projects in the fields of architecture, landscape and design for the year. The best projects in the fields of architecture, landscape and design are selected and honored, and the winning entries are awarded the Gold, Silver and Bronze rabbit trophies in turn, which are displayed at the Zurich Design Museum. There are 25 nominated works for this year's architecture award. The winners of the Gold, Silver and Bronze Rabbit Awards are the Stampfenbachstrasse residence designed by Edelaar Mosayebi Inderbitzin Architects, the Wimbalih cooperative designed by BHSE Architects (and the new construction of the old town of Bernier designed by Buol &zund Architects). These outstanding works provide new inspiration and solutions for our current architecture and urban development, as well as new examples for people's communities and homes.

High quality of life in a small space
(Golden Rabbit Award) Stampfenbachstrasse House
The Stampfenbachstrasse Residence, designed by Edelaar Mosayebi Inderbitzin Architects, won the Golden Rabbit Award in the competition. The residence is located at 131 Stampfenbachstrasse in Zurich and is also known as the "House of the Future Show", with 30 apartments. Since 1960, the number of apartments per person in Switzerland has been increasing, but the supply of building land has been decreasing every year, and the supply of affordable housing has become particularly scarce in urban centers. Therefore, the main goal of the "House of the Future Show" is to design a "high quality of life in a small space".
(Stampfenbachstrasse Residence (Golden Rabbit Award)
The concept of high quality of life has gained popularity in recent years in residential design, and the question of how to improve the quality of life in a limited space has become a challenge for designers. In this regard, there are two mainstream solutions in recent years: one is to increase the overall public space of the house; the other is to start with flexible spaces. The "Future Performance House" is a classic example of creating flexible space. The project uses a load-bearing prefabricated wall made of wood as the basic structure, independent of the existing load-bearing structure, which makes the space very free in terms of arrangement. The basic elements of architecture, such as floors, ceilings, doors, walls, fixtures, furniture, and windows, were rethought and redesigned to provide ample storage space through cleverly placed rotating walls, rotating cabinets, and multi-functional platforms, while providing the occupants with different combinations of space, changing light, ventilation, and a pleasant mood. "The design of the Future Performance House offers the public a new and unconventional way of living, reconstructing the diversity and mobility of the living space, while exploring the potential of the building in close connection with the ETH Zurich program.

New life sprouting from ruins
(Silver Rabbit Award) Warmbachli Cooperative
The Warmbachli Cooperative by BHSE Architects is a residential-commercial area that was converted from a former warehouse of a disused waste incinerator. The design embodies the concept of cluster housing and the designers wanted to create a diverse and sustainable space that serves different categories of social groups and is ecologically, economically, living, social and working. The project is located in Güterstrasse 8, a large shared community in Bern. Like the housing cooperatives that have become popular in Switzerland in recent years, the Weinbachli Cooperative is a non-profit organization that wants to create a creative space that is affordable and has stable rents for the general public, rather than plunge the real estate market into speculation. True quality of life does not lie in material luxury, and by relying on clever design and rational layout of space in an economically sound manner, the Wimbachli Cooperative offers a model design with the concept of cluster housing.
(Silver Rabbit Award) Warmbachli CooperativeAt Warmbachli Cooperative, the shared infrastructure and the design of the spaces ensure a high quality of life and improve the utilization of space. For example, a communal rooftop kitchen and garden are planned, as well as rooms reserved for guests and various rooms for craft activities, which contain sewing areas, shared offices, repair areas and second-hand goods exchange areas. These communal spaces are vibrant and alive in the life of the community. In addition, residents of the Wimbachli Cooperative have a variety of travel options, and the community offers car-sharing services in addition to a large garage for storing bicycles and various trailers. Also, this project is very well connected to public transportation with bus, train and tram stops all within walking distance.
The renovation of the building also shows us the new possibilities of the old building and the spatial beauty of the cluster living space. Living in Wimbachli, the space is not only horizontal but also vertical; not only the different types of apartments are nested so that the different spaces are integrated, but also the spaces in the new large apartments can be extended to each other, and the one-to-one stairway between the existing floors and the new floors makes the space connected, which promotes the exchange of information and commercial prosperity in the area, and also promotes employment of different people, allowing people of different ages, social, cultural and economic backgrounds to share the comfort and beauty of Wimbachli.

Interpreting History with Modernity
(Bronze Rabbit Award) Neubauin der Berner Altstadt
Buol & Zünd Architects was awarded the Bronze Hare in the competition for the project "Neubauin der Berner Altstadt", which is a renovation of the old Reichstag cinema in the old part of Bern with a baroque facade of great historical value. Buol&Zünd has taken into account the traditional urban form and the value of the historic building, preserving all the old parts of the building, while integrating historical traces and layers in the interior and body of the building for a new interpretation, such as the basket arch and the glass For example, the basket arch and glass balustrade are integrated into the artificial stone structure, giving it a new luster. In addition, the structure and space of the building is a blend of modern and historical, with the front and rear buildings, the courtyard, and the type of living being taken into account, and the new extension is a continuation of the original, while the store windows and the entrance to the restaurant give the century-old building a new vitality and commercial value. The renovation of this project is a new exploration of how the old and the new can be presented as a harmonious whole. History and culture are not only a continuation of the sense of atmosphere, but also a continuation and interweaving of culture and emotion, and it also promotes the transformation and development of the old and new city.
